Meditative Oil Paintings of California Landscapes
"Scout, Dozing"
Scout lives next door. Painting pintos presents different challenges than do solid colored horses. The bold patterns of spotted horses need to be echoed in the painting, and here you will find Scout's pattern also in the rocks under the fence. The color of his spots and the angle of his head are repeated in the tree trunk. The results in this "quickie painting" are tight composition and unified color.

This poem is taped to my easel. It expresses my delight in the views outside my windows, and beyond to the hills and mountains that embrace my community:
I meant to do my work today
but a brown bird sang in the apple-tree,
and a butterfly flitted across the field,
and all the leaves were calling me.
And the wind went sighing over the land,
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
and a rainbow held out its shining hand--
So what could I do but laugh and go?
